International Yoga Day 2023
?Yoga is the journey of the self,
to the self, through the self."
Every
year on June 21st, International Yoga Day is observed. A proposal by the Indian
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi led to the United Nations General Assembly
designating it formally in 2014. The purpose of the day is to promote holistic
health and well-being and increase public knowledge of the advantages of yoga
practise. Arvind Gupta DAV Centenary Public School's Yoga Day celebration was a
huge success thanks to the active participation of the students, teachers, and
staff. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness of the value of yoga and
its benefits for general health and wellbeing. The event started with a session
on the history of yoga and its unification and balance-based philosophy by the
school yoga teacher Mr Puneet Shukla. A number of yoga asanas (postures)
emphasising various body areas were taught like Sukshm Vyayam like neck
rotation, shoulder movement, knee movement and trunk movement. Then asanas like
Tadasana, Vrikshasana,Trikonasana, Ardh Chakarasana, Ardh Ushtrasana, Shashankasana,
Mandukasana, Vakrasana,Sarpasana/bhujangasana, Ardh Shalbhasana, Makarasana,
Uttanpadasaana, Ardh Halasana were performed under the able guidance of yoga
teachers. The session came to an end with Pranayam followed by uchharan of Om.
Teachers and students also took part in quizzes and competitions held by the
Ayush ministry in association with Mygov. They all signed the Yoga Pledge
(https://yoga.ayush.gov.in/yoga), pledging to incorporate yoga into their daily
life. The Yoga Day celebration in our school was a memorable and enriching
experience for all participants. It provided students with a comprehensive
introduction to yoga, including asanas, pranayama, and meditation. The event
fostered an understanding of the importance of physical and mental well-being,
encouraging students to incorporate yoga into their daily lives. By celebrating
International Yoga Day, our school demonstrated its commitment to promoting
holistic health and mindfulness among students and the entire school community
which was possible only because of the dynamic leadership, guidance and support
of the school principal, Mrs Mala Sood.
